St. John’s Church at 27 Devens Street in Charlestown celebrated its 175th birthday in 2015. Established in 1840, St. John’s is the oldest church building and the second oldest congregation in Charlestown. This year, 2016, marks the 175th anniversary of the completion of our church building. Plan on attending the following events to help us celebrate.

The first is a Reception and Silent Auction on May 13th which  will benefit several local charities as well as St. John’s.

StJohns-CutlerPhotoThe reception features festive food and drink, and an auction of  art, services, entertainment and fine dining events.

The Birthday Bash is on Friday, May 13th from 6 to 10 pm.. You can RSVP here on this website by clicking the link to the left of this page.

On Sunday November 6 at 4 pm, Bishop Alan M. Gates will join us for a service of thanksgiving and rededication of the church.

St. John’s is a member church of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts. The church building is a contributing structure to the Town Hill Historic District, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. St. John’s Cutler Memorial Forest Garden won the Mayor’s Garden contest in 2008 and the Massachusetts Historical Commission and the Charlestown Preservation Society both recognized the parish’s exterior restoration of the church in preservation awards in 1999.
